    Museum Calf Bonucci

Posted by Harrison Tran on 20th Jun 2017

The custom ordering process was very straight forward and painless. Manufacturing time was as advertised. Delivery was on time. Now, comes the good part...
I found the shoes to be well made, true to size and since I have only worn it one time, found it to be comfortable enough. I think with more frequent wearing and breaking in, the shoes will be even more pliable.
Overall, very beautifully made shoes and well worth the price. Owners are very nice and will work with you to have the shoes made to ordered!

    Overall Great, High Value Shoes!

Posted by Trevor on 12th May 2017

These are my first pair of John Does. I ordered the museum calf in Benn style with the rubber formal sole. Took about a month to ship which is reasonable for a semi-custom shoe.
    Value 9/10

    Style: 9/10
The Museum Calfskin is really beautiful. It has subtle marbling and the color is amazing! I like the different styles John Doe offers and I love that they let you pick the outsole too. There are a couple cosmetic blemishes but nothing major. Overall these shoes are stunners! They look great and I get compliments on them daily.

    Comfort: 9/10
The leather is pretty stiff out of the box and takes a little while to break in. After a week or so of wear, they have become quite comfortable. I am hopeful the leather will become soft and supple over time with wear, polish, conditioner, and love. I have a slightly narrow foot so I have to lace them tightly and the flaps touch. I would love it if they offered a narrow option. The insole feels good and the heel cups my foot well. I wear an 11.5 and they fit true to size.

    Quality: 8/10
Shoes are made with full grain leather. They should last for several years as far as I can tell. They are Goodyear welted and feel like they will hold up to daily wear. The welts are straight and seem well done.
However, the laces provided are cheap and unequal length. The leather could be a little thicker and softer. Some of the decorative perforations didn’t go all the way through and the serrations on the edges of the broguing don’t look that great. There are some weird imperfections on the left side of both shoes that look like weak spots. Some kind of defect in manufacturing or shipping? The stitching isn’t perfect either. I would probably go with a simpler style in the future like the Bonucci to avoid some of this (hopefully).

    Overall: 8.5/10
I looked everywhere to find a quality shoe for a decent price and John Doe didn’t disappoint. Like they say, it’s not a $500 shoe, but the construction, style, durability, and comfort are great for the price. All in all, I think they are great company with stellar customer service and make shoes with impressive value. I will definitely order again, but in a different style due to the things mentioned above.
With a couple tweaks, this company could really be top notch!
