Full grain leather uppers

Cork and leather midsoles
A beautiful leather made by Horween Tannery at Chicago. This leather is made by tanning the rough out side of the leather. Waxy and shiny, the character this leather develops over time is unique. If you are looking for a leather that's going to look better with every scuff it gets, this is the one.

I like these boots. Minimal break-in required before they're comfortable. The laces broke the first time I wore the boot and there are minor stitching/aesthetic imperfections, but totally willing to overlook it at this price point. The waxed flesh is going to look great in a few months as the patina develops. Great value!
My order was for a pair of brown waxed flesh Stark bluchers, with studded rubber soles and storm welt, per their Shoe of the Month edition of June 2017. JOHN doe was kind to ask if I wanted eyelets (grommets) - they offered their opinion that the shoes looked nice with them, and I agreed. I ordered my normal size, and there was initially some slight heel slippage which went away after the soles got worn in. Some crocking happened to my socks as the colour from the top edges of the uppers rubbed off, which reveal on the shoes' topline the natural colour of roughout leather. The combination of rubber soles and storm welt should keep ground water from seeping into the shoes. John Doe makes 360º storm welts, which is not standard issue for many other brands that sell storm-welted boots. I think John Doe's made-to-order offer is great, as one can get shoes made of any of their leathers in various styles, for a reasonable price. This was not my first purchase of John Doe Shoes, and I would buy from then again.
